Scorpion in the sand
|

Many of us assume that scorpions are insects. However, they are actually arthropods belonging to the same species as mites, ticks, and arachnids that possess a poisonous stinger on the end of their tails. Scorpions are not only found in desert areas but also found in forests and grasslands. There are about 20 species of scorpions in Texas. They have a typical lifespan of three to five years but can even survive for up to 15 years.

While planning a summer trip to Texas, consider that scorpions are most active during this season. Scorpions are dangerous pests for homeowners to deal with as they often creep into homes for food and hide in obscured areas for shelters. Most scorpions are not venomous. However, the venomous bark scorpion is commonly found in Texas.

If you have or are worried about a scorpion infestation in your home, check out the timeline of the scorpion season in Texas.

September To October

During these months, you need to keep a close eye on your doors as scorpions begin to look for shelter indoors. The temperatures drop from the blistering heat and humidity of July and August, so make sure to watch your doors during this time for any stray visitors.

November To December

The temperature is cool during these months, especially at night. Scorpions search for warm places to wait out the winter. Other pests can’t be spotted during this period but scorpions look for shelter to stay safe and warm inside homes during this time of year.

January To February

Scorpions have an extremely low tolerance to the cold and tend to hide in houses, seeking warmth. Some of the more common areas they’ll hide in are under ducts or near heaters in your home. Typically, they don’t disturb anyone; however, if they are pestered, they will become active as a means to protect themselves.

March To April

During these months, scorpions and other pests become active due to the rise in temperature. Even the use of pesticides can result in scorpions moving indoors to escape the spraying. Moreover, scorpions that have created a comfortable space for themselves in your home are not likely to venture out because of spraying. Instead, they will become active and oftentimes attack, thus making it crucial that your home is protected against scorpions to prevent them from entering inside.

May To June

This period is extremely hot and humid, and scorpions tend to move gradually to preserve their energy. They start looking for cool places to escape the heat in your home. The most important step you can take during the summer is to contact professionals who can help prevent scorpion infestation in your home.

July To August

This is considered the most active season for scorpions. You need to take extra precautions to prevent them from entering your house. Regular checking of your house during these summer months is highly recommended.
