Two ants fighting on a rock
|

Ants are native to Texas. Various ants live in our homes and are a grave concern to our home and family.

Here are types of ants and their identification.

Types Of Ants:

Crazy Ants: They are smaller and do not have a dark color abdomen. Generally, ants move in a specific pattern, but these ants move disorderly. As per their name they run around here and there in an erratic way. They become violent if they feel threatened.

Pharaoh Ants: Also called sugar ants, these are small, reddish color species of ants. These are mostly found indoors in Texas. They neither sting nor bite. They eat sweets like cakes and bread and greasy foods. They prefer to live in the sockets, walls, cracks, and crevices. They like to stay near water or warm areas.

Little Black Ants: They live under the gardens’ rocks, debris, or soil. These are the marching ants who move in a systematic pattern. These little black ants can bite, but their bite does not cause any problem. Watch out for your food; you will find them there.

Odorous House Ants: These black ants have small heads and distinct odors. They are found in dark brown and black color. They run very fast and give off nasty smells when they are crushed. Odorous house ants have a stinger and can bite. These little ants are very violent and threatening.

Acrobat Ants: These multicolored species also give off a bad smell. When disturbed in their nests, they hold their heart-shaped abdomens over the rest of their body and emit a nasty odor.

Texas Leaf Cutting Ants: They build many hills in lawns to harvest the fungus they feed on. Keep a watch for the entire colony as they cause significant damage to your green property.

Fire Ants: They can bite, and it causes a painful blister on the affected area. They usually have red and black color, large eyes, and two nodes.

Carpenter Ants: They are the most common ants found in Texas. There are 18 species of carpenter ants. They have a reddish-brown head and a black tail. Some of them have wings. They mostly live in trees.
